Something has launched from Mote Prime towards the jump point. The Sailing Master is certain it's a fuel ship for the ambassador's boat. Meanwhile, Doctors Horvath and Buckman are discussing the asteroids. The asteroids were put into place after they have been completely mined and adapted with orbital paths that will never collide. Both men are shocked; they wonder how old the Motie civilization really is and are amazed at this accomplishment.

Rod and Sally meet with the Admiral regarding the gift ship, and Rod suggests extensive precautions for anything brought aboard from the craft.
