Scientists are going crazy over each batch of data, resources are stretched. Sinclair spends three days in the tool room and is finally assigned a Fyunch (Motie).

Horace Bury is bored. The primary thing of value for Bury at this point is learning that Motie pets definitely need to be secured.

The Moties constantly change their ship. The scientists want an access tunnel built from the Motie ship to the cutter. Rod is worried about his most important civilian passengers all being involved in the initial studies of the Moties and the increased risk from the connecting tunnel. Despite his dislike of the idea, Rod finally approves.
