Cargill and crew return. Whitbred volunteers to unload the artifacts from the asteroid.

Whitbred is now on night watch and visits the miniature Moties. As he opens the door, one of the creatures escapes so quickly all he can do is close the door to stop any others from escaping.

Rod is disgusted; he must report this problem to the Lenin and her admiral. Kutuzov is highly suspicious, believing the small Moties to be spies sent to learn MacArthur's secrets.
