Mr. Mulliner Summary

In the first story from Mr. Mulliner, "The Truth about George" the story is told of a stammering crossword-puzzle enthusiast who sets out to get over his trouble stammering by making it a point to speak to as many new people a day as he can, and to sing when that fails. So, he sets out on a train to begin meeting new people, and while his thoughts are in perfect order, the combination of a close encounter with an escaped mental patient and another with a beautiful woman whom he scared with songs about tea manage to keep him pretty nervous. The woman is so unnerved that she applies the train brake and soon residents from across the countryside are chasing him from the train with pitchforks. Fortune, however, guides him to the door of Susie Blake, the fellow crossword...
