Summary

This last section opens with a flashback to Violet's wedding in 2006. She too is married in David and Marilyn's backyard. A still grieving Wendy proceeds to get drunk, and David brings her to his study to diffuse the situation. Wendy rails about Violet's wedding coming on the heels of her stillbirth and tells David that she is not the only screw up; Violet has her own secret. Presumably Wendy is referencing Violet's pregnancy. David ponders what she might mean and considers bringing it up with Marilyn but decides not to worry her.

Chapter 28 opens with David refusing to accompany Marilyn to the hospital for the birth of Liza's baby. He still feels compromised by his health, and does not want to interfere with Liza's joy. However, he has forgotten to tell Marilyn that Gillian is delivering the baby. Despite her annoyance with David...
