Summary
This section begins Part Three entitled “Fall.” It opens with Chapter 13, as Wendy deposits Jonah at David and Marilyn's house. Both try to make him feel welcome and he becomes keenly aware of the depth of their marriage. The novel then flashes back to "1992-1993," Marilyn pregnant with Grace. The two decided to have another child when Liza is nine in a moment of nostalgia-to keep them young. The girls have mixed responses to the news. Gillian, David's colleague, serves as Marilyn's obstetrician, and Marilyn feels a bit threatened by her youth, looks, and accomplishments.
