Summary
In Chapter 10, after reading all of Sarah’s collected diary entries, Willie feels a new sense of reverence and interest regarding Templeton and its history. Willie mentions Sarah Temple to Vivienne, and Vivienne says that Sarah killed herself after giving birth to Vivienne’s father. Willie looks around the house at various antiques it contains, including an old wooden toy horse. Willie returns to the library to continue her research. When she later returns home, she is surprised to see that Vivienne has invited various members of her church group to talk with Willie and pray for her. Willie, an atheist, angrily yells at them to leave. Willie is also angry that Vivienne apparently had told people about the various painful and embarrassing recent events in Willie’s life. After the church group leaves, Vivienne says that she is dating the church’s minister...
