Structure
The Moment of Lift is broken into nine chapters and an epilogue. Each chapter is meant to build off of the last one by introducing more and more layers to the complex problem that is empowering women around the world. It also follows the growth of the Bill and Melinda Foundation. In the beginning, they sought to save children from treatable diseases. But over the next two decades, broadened their philanthropy work the more they understood about the world and its needs.
Chapter One focuses on establishing Melinda as a narrator. This includes her beliefs, her point of view, her background, and why she choose to advocate for family planning and female empowerment.
Chapter Two focuses on the first problem that the foundation tried to address; the maternal and infant mortality rate. It establishes two very important concepts that drive the rest of the foundation’s research...
