Summary

The next chapter is titled “Makaradwaj.” Tilo takes a spice known as makaradwaj from the shelf. She calls on the spice to make her more beautiful than Raven can imagine. The spices feel betrayed. Tilo hates that they want her to choose between the spices and Raven. She accepts that she cannot have human love and an ordinary life. She knows makaradwaj is powerful and should be taken in small doses over several days. Since she does not have time, she gulps down the entire vial. Her throat burns, and her body reacts violently.
