Summary

The third chapter is titled “Cinnamon.” Tilo opens by talking about the properties and role of chilies. The mistresses were warned to use it sparingly because “It is easy to start a flame. But to put out?” (39). Jagjit is a10-year-old who comes into the store with his mother. The children at school treat him horribly. His mother never shows kindness.
