Part One, Chapters 11-14 Summary
.In Chapter Eleven Shay speaks to Lon Maddon, who makes her uncomfortable. She picks up the wash from Samuel Williams, who has consumption. She learns that the Maddon twins' mother was a prostitute and their father was hanged for murder. Thora K teaches Shay how to do the wash, and thinks Shay has the Sight. Shay is alone at the cabin and decides to see if Samuel Williams needs any help. She muses about how she does not miss Marek, and meets May Bell, a friend of Corbin's. On Sunday the family goes to Samuel Williams's wife's funeral, and Elton visits her afterward. He has not brought the mirror, but hopes Brandy has written letters for Sophie.
