Isabella

Isabella is a fictional Caribbean island based on the author’s birthplace of Trinidad. Like Trinidad, Isabella is a Caribbean island that at one time was under the control of the British Empire. During the events of the novel, Isabella does not appear to have yet gained its independence from Britain. Singh was born on Isabella and lived their until he went to attend a university in London. After graduating, he returned to Isabella, where he engaged in business and politics. At about the age of 40, Singh was ousted from Isabella in the wake of a series of political failures.
