Summary

In Part 2, Chapter 5, Singh recalls graduating from Isabella Imperial but being unable to go abroad for further education due to the war. Browne took a job as a clerk on Isabella and attempted to write an anti-imperialist novel about slaves and slavery. Singh found work as a clerk in a government office and grew quite restless there. Singh often went on rides about town with Cecil, who had grown even prouder of his family’s money over the years and even more disdainful of the poor. On one of these rides, Cecil showed Singh a Luger gun that he had bought. One day, Singh met a man who had known Singh’s father as Gurudeva in the forest camp.
