Part Two, The Sixth Estate, Chapters 35-39 Summary
Isiah Parker remembers his brother's funeral and the pain he felt when he delivered the eulogy. Parker had wanted someone to pay then, and feels now that someone is finally beginning to pay. However, Parker is beginning to have doubts about the methods. Parker calls the man who recruited him to this murder squad and asks the man to assure him that what they are doing is right. Parker arranges for the meeting to take place on his turf, a train station in Harlem. The man, police deputy commissioner Charles Mackey, assures Parker that they are on the side of the angels. This is a phrase Parker will repeat to himself often as his doubts grow.
As Stef drives to New Jersey for Bear's funeral, he thinks about his own family...
