Summary
Mr. Hancock moves Angelica into his house and his sister, Mrs. Lippard, comes to visit, demanding he throw the whore out on the street. Claiming Sukie’s reputation will be ruined, Mrs. Lippard threatens to remove her daughter from the house, but Sukie does not want to go. Mrs. Lippard gives Mr. Hancock a choice between Sukie and Angelica. He appears to choose Angelica. Angelica sticks up for Sukie and explains how if she remains in the house she will see the girl gets an excellent education. They are expecting Captain Jones and the new mermaid to return any day.
