Summary

Mr. Hancock wakes up feeling guilty about the night before in Chapter 17. He believes he has made a terrible mistake associating his name with Mrs. Chappell and he feels horrible about possibly humiliating Angelica Neal. He walks to the counting house where his employees Oliver and Scrimshaw the Beak prod him for information about the night before. They are most interested in the women. Mr. Hancock explains he was disgusted by the rich and powerful and how they behaved. He writes a letter to Mrs. Chappell asking for the return of the mermaid.

In Chapter 18 Angelica wakes up happy to be with George at Mrs. Chappell’s. She convinces the young man to come back to her apartment. In Chapter 19 Simeon Stanley, Mrs. Chappell’s footman, comes to talk with Mr. Hancock, having received his letter about returning the mermaid. Simeon Stanley...
