Summary

Mr. Hancock choses a coffee house called The Pineapple as the first place to display the mermaid in Chapter 5. Chapter 6 jumps back to the confectioner’s shop where Angelica and her friend Bel Fortescue are eating jellies. Bel Fortescue reveals she plans to get married, and Angelica criticizes marriage as a form of servitude. When she gets home, she finds a man has left her a pineapple and a note. Angelica gets upset because Mrs. Frost is still gone and there is no one to help her dress. The servant girl Maria tries, but sticks Angelica with the pins. Finally, Mrs. Frost returns and helps Angelica look fabulous for her date at the theater. She goes out, returning with money she received from a gentleman.
