Summary
Cornet spends the next day poring over a list he is creating. Ursa feels uncomfortable in his presence, especially after what she learned in Vardøhaus. They sleep together and discuss Ursa’s miscarriage. Cornet implies that they will not be stuck in Vardø forever, and suggests she hopes for sons. The next day, Ursa awakens to commotion and crying outside. She sees Fru Olufsdatter’s door wide open but cannot see what is inside. A delighted Toril tells Ursa that Cornet has arrested Fru Olufsdatter. The Fru comes out, with her hands bound, Cornet leading her away. Ursa asks her husband what is going on, and he explains she is being arrested for witchcraft and being taken into the jail in Vardøhaus.
