In Chapter Nine, Jack continues his way up to his room and, worn out, sits down in his chair. He looks out the window and his mind goes to the fields and woods he gazes out at.

Chapter Ten: Mat

In Chapter Ten, Mat, after hearing that Jack has not shown up for normal morning routine, goes to the hotel and finds Jack sitting in his chair, dead. As a close friend of Jack's for over sixty-years, he naturally feels some grief, but he also feels relief, knowing that it was Jack's time to go.
