Summary
Chapter Nine
Total silence fell over the Glade after Newt read the girl’s message aloud. Everyone was dumbfounded. Alby called up to “med-jacks” who checked the girl’s pulse and heartbeat. Some of the boys were making cracks about having first dibs on the girl. Thomas didn’t think it was anything to joke about – the girl was half dead. Alby warned the boys that if anyone touched the girl, he’d be thrown out in the Maze with the Grievers. The med-jacks proclaimed the girl to be healthy; but she was, perhaps, in a coma. The two med-jacks carried her away. Thomas suddenly felt that there was something familiar about the girl. He felt a connection to her.
Newt figured there had to be something special about the girl or else she wouldn’t have been sent there. Thomas remained silent...
