Summary
In Chapter 18, Iris at first allows herself to get emotional when Corban sympathizes with her over Will’s death. But, when he says the words “I’m so sorry" (172), the same ones on Will’s note, Iris regains control. She tells Corban that the story Will gave him about the job in Seattle was a lie and watches as Corban’s face shows proof that he is really offended by Will’s behavior. Corban seems equally stunned to learn that Will was not from Memphis. After thinking about what he has learned, Corban tells Iris he had noticed Will had been acting strange recently as if he was more stressed than usual.
