Chapters Seventeen and Eighteen Summary
In Chicago, Zeke is being comforted by his fellow Christians. He asks Rayford if it'd be possible to retrieve his father's body and is encouraged not to. He's reminded that Zeke is already in Heaven, rejoicing with his Savior. As Rayford leaves Zeke's room, Kenny Bruce runs to Rayford's arms, yelling, "Grandpa!" He's pursued by Leah, a nurse and believer in the safe house who sometimes cares for him. Kenny Bruce also takes a turn hugging Tsion, who he calls, "Unca Zone." Later, it's Hattie who is changing Kenny Bruce and then snuggles with him as he goes to sleep.
Buck and Albie move to the girls' section of the prison. They spot one believer among the group and Albie demands that she come forward. She's handcuffed before Albie takes her outside, setting her free as Buck...
