Point of View
The novel is told in two, distinct point of views. The most important and most frequently used one is Nour who tells her entire story in first person. Due to Nour’s young age, her narration is unique in that it feels slightly naive, as she does not have the same life experiences as her older family members. However, this becomes a trait that the reader is able to connect to as she matures throughout the events of the novel. The reader sees her shift from a child who believes what people tell her to a young adult that begins to make her own decisions and build her own faith. Nour is also special because of her synesthesia, or the unique ability to see colors everywhere in the world, including sights and sounds.
