Summary
Rawiya’s expedition continues from Halim’s house the next day following day. Rawiya feels nervous the further they travel, and al-Idrisi warns them not to tell anyone they were sent by King Roger. Unfortunately, they are surrounded by a group of Fatimid men on camels. The leader, Ibn Hakim, asks who they serve, but refuses to believe that they serve God alone. He demands they go with him to the palace in Cairo. When Rawiya reaches for the Roc’s eye, it burns through the pouch. Ibn Hakim picks it up and is shocked to hear his mother’s voice. He cuts the eye in half and demands that the caliph in Cairo examine it himself. When they make camp, Khaldun sings a song that makes all of Ibn Hakim’s men...
