Summary
In Chapter 14, during a rare revival of sexual desire between Dorothy and Louis, she called him “Sam” (195). Louis became aggressive, and Dorothy restrained him by using the leg choke that Sam had taught Greta – causing Louis to faint, and forget what had happened. Dr. Shedhorn prepared Dorothy for a more intense therapy session.
In Chapter 15, Lai King’s father fell sick after trying a new vaccine, which Health Department officials had paid him to publicly receive and endorse. With fires raging through Chinatown, Lai King’s mother led her to port and put her on a boat with money, and a letter with directions to find her family in China.
