Summary

In Chapter 1, Mariana is among those watching as Morris is arrested. She sees Edward smiling as he watches from his room. The dean is relieved that “it's over” but Mariana knows he is wrong. Mariana and Zoe join Clarissa for a drink that afternoon. Mariana tells them about confronting Edward. Zoe says she has put herself in danger. Mariana recounts that Zoe thought Edward was innocent but she says she has changed her mind. Mariana says she is not leaving campus, despite Sangha's order, because she is tired of running away.
