Summary
In Chapter 7, Mariana finds a the student who was supposed to be directing the upcoming play. Veronica was the lead actress. The play has been canceled and the man is demolishing the set in a fit of anger at his lost opportunity. He says he saw Veronica leave around six the previous evening, that Edward had come to watch rehearsal, and that Veronica was supposed to meet Edward later. Though police have already searched the dressing room, Mariana goes there to look around. She finds a postcard at Veronica's vanity. The image is a blond saint with a silver dagger in her neck.
In Chapter 8, the attitude at the college changes with the second murder. Everyone feels the plague “spreading through the college – as in a Greek myth.” Students do not feel safe. Zoe cries inconsolably. Mariana believes Zoe is just...
