Summary
Part Three opens with a quote by Aristotle describing the “perfect plot” of a story. According to Aristotle, the hero's situation must change from “happiness to misery, and the cause of it must lie not in any depravity, but in some great error on his part.” In Chapter 1, the author reveals the detail of the next victim. The body was found on some common land used for grazing cows. Mariana and Fred go there together. Fred distracts the police at the cordon giving Mariana a chance to slip into the area. Julian is there. Typically, he winks at her and allows her in. The pathologist is a man named Kuba. Mariana is horrified by the victim who has slashes all over her torso. She recognizes Veronica.
