Summary
In Chapter 5, Molly returns to her apartment and reminisces about Gran, the strict cleaning schedule they kept at home, and the conversations they would have over episodes of Columbo and tea. Gran raised Molly, assuming the role of primary care giver after Molly’s parents disappeared. While she wanted her granddaughter to go to college and pursue higher ambitions than herself, Gran was supportive when Molly wanted to be a maid after graduating high school.
Molly was frightened and excited when she started work at the Regency Grand, elated to make her own deposit in “the Fabrege”, Gran’s bank account (61). In the past the Fabrege was a source of comfort and hope however it now symbolized Molly’s regret. When she was taking courses at the community college, the narrator began dating Wilbur Brown.
