Summary
In Chapter 7, Thomas is intrigued by his older children’s boisterousness. He and Katia decide to send Erika and Klaus to a more liberal school. He is furious when he learns through their uncle that the children regularly have same-sex love affairs.
Löhr passes away. At the funeral, Thomas senses that Lula is channeling their mother at their father’s funeral. Heinrich tells him Lula is not sorry Löhr is dead.
Thomas’ books become popular again. He attends countless social events. The Manns thrive financially. Thomas ignores the demonstrations happening in Munich, preferring to pretend that things are returning to normal.
