Giovanna's family photographs symbolize truth. After Giovanna overhears her parents saying she looks like Vittoria, she becomes desperate to find an image of her aunt. In the photographs she discovers her father has blackened Vittoria's figure out of every image. This discovery makes Giovanna realize something has happened between her father and aunt. Later, when Giovanna sees Nella's old photographs, she notices her grandmother wearing the coveted bracelet. This image reveals the truth of the bracelet's origin, and acts as blatant evidence of Andrea's affair.
