Chapters 8 through 11 Summary
In Chapter Eight, Sutton's mother wakes Emma, calling her Sutton and telling her she's going to be late for class. Emma realizes Sutton hasn't come home. Now she's very worried and tries to tell Mrs. Mercer her true identity, but Mrs. Mercer doesn't believe her. Sutton watches and notes that even her mother doesn't realize Emma isn't Sutton. Mrs. Mercer sends Laurel upstairs to get Sutton's bag, saying she doesn't trust that Sutton won't fall back asleep. Sutton listens as Emma continues, trying to explain the situation. Sutton admits that it does sound unbelievable. Mrs. Mercer points out that Sutton's birthday is in two weeks and asks if she can earn it, "just once."
Laurel says she's going to drive them to school and Mrs. Mercer asks if Sutton has left her car at a friend's house. Feeling she has no...
