Summary

Clinch does not like that Anna is visiting the opium den. He feels that it leaves her vulnerable. He wants to know how Anna came to be an opium addict. Anna does not want to listen to him and tells him to leave her alone.

Mr. Mannering questions Emery Staines about the gold nugget that he found. He wonders why Staines has not spent any of the hundred that the nugget brought. Staines talks to Mannering about keeping secrets and Mannering concludes that there is more to the story about the gold nugget.

George Shepard spots Sook Yongsheng in town and makes his wife go back to the camp. She obediently obeys. He watches Sook Yongsheng with his hand on his holster. A man asks him if everything is okay. Shepard hands over his parcels and pays for his goods and leaves.
