Summary

Camilo falls into the habit of attending the soccer games that Cosme plays in with the neighborhood boys, and struggles not to feel as though he has been denied access to the space on account of his disability. Indeed, Camilo finds the outings unpleasant, as they force him to contemplate his own lack of physical mobility. He watches the boys play and injure themselves with a feeling of jealousy. He also finds himself interested in the boys’ relationship with Cosme; though they seem glad that he is there, they are also at turns cruel to him and treat him as an outsider. One day, after the match, some of the boys lead Camilo and Cosme behind the old slave quarters. Two of them, Iguatemi and Zetimó, locate a cobra and kill it. Then, silently, the boys mutually masturbate and depart without acknowledging one...
