Summary
In Part III, "Mistake," Mrs. Quinn told her story to Enid. Mr. Willens had come over to give Mrs. Quinn an eye examination. He "had been close up in front of her," the instrument to her eye, and his hand moving up her dress, when Rupert snuck into the house (57). When Rupert saw Mr. Willens touching his wife, he jumped on Mr. Willens "like a bolt of lightning" (57). He then banged Mr. Willens’s head against the floor until he died. There were no cuts on his face, but a pink liquid was "coming out of his mouth" (57). Rupert hurriedly put the room back in order, reassembling Mr. Willens's case. Mrs. Quinn wrapped Mr. Willens's head in a tablecloth, and told Rupert they had to bury him. Realizing the problem of Mr. Willens's car, they decided to push the car into the river...
