High School
As it does for many teenagers, high school plays a huge role in the experiences that shape Lily as a person. Abelard and Lily are brought together through their joint destruction of the sliding wall between Coach Neuwirth and Ms. Cardeña's classrooms. Their paths cross once again as the two sit in the vice principal's office, where Lily leans in and kisses Abelard, much to his surprise. The relationship between the two continues to grow as they spend more time with each other at school - first in detention, and later in the robotics lab. Lily views school as a "barren wasteland" filled with pointless paperwork. She often skips class on impulse, unable to sit still and listen long enough to make it through the whole day (50). Although Abelard does not struggle with schoolwork as Lily does, he finds the crowds of people and constant stimulation...
