Summary

In “Chapter 12,” Aamir asked Rukhsana what happened when she came upstairs and he saw the mark on her cheek. She told him what happened and he attempted to defend her to their parents, but she told him not to. She asked him to cover her and snuck over to Ariana’s house since her parents were away. They kissed and slept together, Rukhsana snuck back into her house in the morning, then went to school, terrified of what her parents would do next.

In “Chapter 13,” Rukhsana spent a few tense weeks at home. One night, her parents gave her a gold pendant and took her out to dinner with their friends.
