Summary

In Chapter 20: "Mila," she visits Anna and is thrilled to see that Nadiya is looking better. Anna says Nadiya can stay, but only if Mila promises not to tell anyone, which she agrees to. Mila also learns about the Torgsin, where people can trade foreign money for food. Once Anna and Olga leave, Nadiya reveals that Mila’s father is actually a kulak, despite hating them. Mila does not believe her and mentions the kulak revolution, but Nadiya snaps, as it is the Communists starving everyone. Both agree to talk later.
