Summary
Chapter 11 begins as Marie woke from a few hours’ sleep in the shed to the sound of footsteps outside. The man from the previous night led her to the train station, where they both mounted a bicycle and rode to a safe house nearby, which was surrounded by unexploded ordnance dropped in a German air raid. Upstairs, she finds a group of men surrounding a table and eating breakfast. One of the men is Will, the pilot from the night before, who had mechanical troubles and was thus unable to leave. Another, named Albert, introduces himself as a courier. He revealed that the man who had led Marie to the shed and to the house was in fact Vesper, the leader of operations in northern France.
Soon, Josie arrived, and told the group that a nearby safe house had been compromised. Vesper resolved...
