Point of View

The novel is written in third-person from the limited perspective of Blue, a young SilkWing dragon who is poised on the edge of a coming-of-age moment when his sister is taken prisoner. Blue lives in a culture ruled by HiveWings and he is a product of his environment and his education. He believes in obeying the rules at all costs, which is why he only learns about an underground movement when he is about to be taken prisoner. He knows that his best friend Swordtail and his sister Luna sometimes talk about ideas considered treasonous, but he has never considered these ideas credible until the HiveWings take Luna into custody. From that point, Blue realizes that he can no longer blindly obey the government, though there is a ingrained part of him that wants to return to his former life.
