Summary
In this chapter, Preston examines the significance of the site at T1. He discusses the find of two Peace Corps volunteers in 1994 in the Talgua Caves north of Catacamas. The find these volunteers made was of the Cave of the Glittering Skulls. These volunteers, named Timothy Berg and Greg Cabe, found a cave filled with glittering bones and marble and ceramic vessels. These bones were part of an ancient ossuary that was later explored by George Hasemann, then director of the IHAH and an archeologist named James Brady in 1995. They explored what had likely been the central burial chamber and found bones that had been preserved by a glittering coating of calcite crystals.
