Summary
On their third day in the jungle, Preston and the crew went to the site of the cache of objects with Virgilio, the colonel, and four soldiers. After touring the city, they returned to the cache. The soldiers began to clear the site, and Ana made sketches of the finds. Many of the Special Forces soldiers taking part in Operacion Bosque were from indigenous groups. Alicia spoke to many of them, who expressed excitement about the find, which they felt was a sacred place of some variety. Alicia asked them to identify whether the trees were of the cacao species, which, if true (and it was later determined to be unclear), might indicate a trade tie with the Maya, who regarded cacao as sacred.
