Summary

Chapter 13 is titled “The Serpent of the Garden.” Shinyun and Ragnor are still fighting until Sammael quietly says their names. He orders them to their rooms, and they disappear. He says Ragnor found this place. He identifies Magnus as an eldest curse. Sammael says he has not been to Earth in a long time and has no living children. Sammael claims credit for creating Shadowhunters, saying “Raziel would never have bothered if I hadn't let all those demons into your world” (232). He says Shadowhunters are “loyal opposition,” though he admits there might occasionally be something personal that motivates him. Sammael kills Ox-Head and Horse-Face, but points out they will regenerate somewhere. Sammael says he is not yet ready to start the war and that they should simply go home.
