Summary

Chapter 7 is titled “Ke House.” Magnus, who is tired but feels remarkably good, optimistically opens a Portal. Demons pour through and he closes it after only a moment, deciding to take taxis instead. Magnus has been to the Ke house before and is thinking about that when he falls asleep. He wakes up later in a bed. He discovers Jem is there. Jem's wife Tessa is hiding from Shinyun because, like Magnus, she is “an eldest curse” (the term refers to the oldest child of any of the Princes of Hell). Jem explains that there are never more than nine eldest curses, one for each of the princes, and Jem only knows of two currently – Tessa and Magnus. Based on his conversation with Shinyun, Magnus does not believe Sammael sent Shinyun after the eldest curses.
