Summary
In Chapter 22, narrated by Eliza, Eliza was relieved when Lady Clarence returned the jar in which she had put the poison. Lady Clarence told Eliza that her lady’s maid had quit and that she was looking for a replacement if Eliza was interested.
Chapter 23 is narrated by Nella. While Nella was away from her shop to pick up supplies, she happened to see a newspaper that stated the police were looking for Lord Clarence’s murderer. The article indicated that Lady Clarence’s lady’s maid had taken a wax impression of the etching on the jar to the police and claimed it held poison Lady Clarence had bought to kill her husband.
