Summary

Chapter 8 is narrated by Caroline. Caroline was awakened by nausea, increasing her fear she might be pregnant. Because she could not sleep, Caroline accessed the library’s online database and searched for information about the vial. Caroline was intrigued by a handwritten note that referenced a place called Bear Alley where there was an apothecary who concocted poisons to kill men. This woman blamed her husband for a particular poisoning not going as planned. The note was part of an archive from St. Thomas’ hospital, suggesting it was a deathbed confession. Caroline discovered there was a Bear Alley in London and decided to explore it. Meanwhile, Caroline received an email from James informing her that he was on his way to London.
