Summary

Chapter 8 is narrated by Caroline. Caroline was awakened by nausea, increasing her fear she might be pregnant. Caroline was intrigued by a handwritten note that referenced a place called Bear Alley where there was an apothecary who concocted poisons to kill men. This woman blamed her husband for a particular poisoning not going as planned. The note was part of an archive from St. Thomas’ hospital, suggesting it was a deathbed confession. Caroline discovered there was a Bear Alley in London and decided to explore it. Meanwhile, Caroline received an email from James informing her that he was on his way to London.
