Section 10: p. 119-132 Summary
The innkeeper is very busy since her husband of three year died in a paper mill accident. The innkeeper asks about Wertheimer's funeral. The narrator condemns the government and socialists before telling her about the funeral. When the innkeeper mentions that Wertheimer promised to leave her a valuable necklace if he died first, the narrator promises that she will receive it. The innkeeper condemns Wertheimer's guests for taking advantage of him. She says that he wrote his sister, asking her to leave her husband and return to live with him. He drove his sister and himself insane. The narrator asks for hot tea. As he waits, he examines an infection on his temple, considering that he may have a disease.
