Summary
In Chapter 37, it stormed the remainder of the day. Chartrand stayed in the room because he was so seasick. As Clara and Gamache sat and talked, he showed her the book that he was always reading. He said it was his father’s. Gamache had not begun reading the book until he retired and came to live in Three Pines. He explained he did not read beyond his father’s bookmark because he did not want to leave him behind.
Myrna and Beauvoir interrupted their conversation when they came to share that the asbestos in Massey’s studio had been found on one painting at the back of the studio. Myrna confirmed that painting had been better than the rest of the paintings in Massey’s studio. Gamache realized that the painting in Massey’s studio made their theory no longer fit. They...
