Summary

In Chapter 31, Gamache’s continued to doubt if Chartrand was really trying to help them and if he was telling them the truth about his relationship to the art commune. Gamache voiced his concerns to Myrna that so many people, including them when Chartrand took them out of the village, had disappeared.

In Chapter 32, Reine-Marie called Gamache to tell him that the registrar at the college remembered that Peter had asked for Norman’s file also. The college had transferred the physical file to an electronic one and was emailing one to Reine-Marie. Reine-Marie called Gamache about the same time that Beauvoir received a call from the manager of La Muse. Beauvoir learned that Vachon went to Tabaquen to paint, while Gamache learned that was the place to which Norman had gone. They suspected that Peter had gone there as well.
