Summary

In Chapter 7, Gamache paid a visit to Peter’s mother and step-father Irene and Bert Finney. Gamache indicated it was Bert, whom he considered the ugliest man alive, who opened the door. Irene was pretty and plump with a kind expression on her face but Gamache steeled himself to keep from getting drawn into her lair. It was clear that Irene blamed Clara for keeping Peter away from his real calling. She indicated she did not plan to help Gamache find Peter so he could return him to Three Pines. When Gamache asked Irene why she did not display any of Peter’s works of art, Irene said that Peter had not yet earned the right to be hung among the great artists whose works she displayed.
